In an effort to strengthen food security and support farmers, Cáritas Callao held an important meeting with the president of the Cañete National Water Board and representatives of farmers from the Cañete and Yauyos valley. During this meeting, the reality of the agricultural sector and opportunities for collaboration for the acquisition of products that will be destined for social aid in the diocese of Callao were discussed.
A bridge between the countryside and social aid
The farmers expressed their interest in establishing agreements that allow the sale of their products to Cáritas Callao, thus ensuring an efficient distribution of fresh, quality food to the neediest people. Among the products offered are sweet potatoes, watermelons and grapes, traditional crops of the region that can now be sent directly from the farm to those who need them most. As part of this agreement, Cáritas Callao would make a solidarity contribution to the farmers, for their part they will be contributing with affordable prices so that more families can benefit from these foods.
Farmers are grateful for the opportunity
During the meeting, producers expressed their gratitude for having been heard and for the opportunity to participate in an initiative that will not only benefit their communities, but will also have a positive impact on the fight against hunger in Callao. The possibility of their products being destined for social aid gives them a sense of purpose and reaffirms the importance of agriculture as a fundamental pillar in Christian solidarity.
